Matariki

During this week of languages I have learnt more about Matariki.
Here is a bit of Matariki information I have learnt.

Matariki is a new year celebration. Matariki has two different meanings; tiny eyes and eyes of God.

People celebrate Matariki in many different ways. The reason why we celebrate Matariki is guiding our unique place in which we live and giving respect to the land we live on.

Matariki is the stars that are high above and which means ‘ The Seven Sisters’.
Matariki is one of the most important things on earth; it’s a new beginning of Aotearoa Pacific. Matariki is a new year celebration.

The long wild duffy assembly

The day grew faster and faster, as it stroked 11:30 it was time to enter the school hall. I sat down with the school. They took a while, but as they came walking in we all introduced the assembly singing the national anthem. Finally we began the school prayer and sat down quietly. Our two guests were a man and woman named Mr Mc and Mrs Wright.

Mrs Wright told us a little about herself, so did Mr Mc. He talked for half an hour. I was a little bored and tired at the same time. But the juniors liked it and laughed the whole time. He showed us a book he had created the book with other people who had drawn the pictures.

Talking time was over. Mr Coakley and Mr Mc handed out the Duffy books. Each person went up to receive them for their classes.

Time was up. While Mr Mc danced with some room 1 pupils we sang the duffy song. We all said ‘Goodbye’ and waved.
