A night to be Treasured

Yum, yum, yum, in my tum, tum, tum
Masala Restaurant here we come.

This was a night to remember,
In the month of December,

The year 8 dressed so beautifully,
To dine at Masala Restaurant was such a great opportunity.

Across from Mission Bay,
We saw the beautiful view on the sunny day.

Finally we sat down, time to eat!
Woohoo! I jumped up and stomped my feet.

Yummy, I ate spicy Garlic Chicken mild,
and talked with everyone who laughed and smiled.

All our memories of friendship of friendship will always
What a night to never forget,
As we left, the sun began to set.

Piha Mills Camp

The three days at camp was a great experience for me to forget about school work and just have fun. It was an opportunity for everyone to work together and experience life outdoors.

Walking through the bushes to the waterfall was the most enjoyable time at camp. I felt so calm walking on my own looking at the trees and bushes surrounding me. The only thing I could hear was the birds tweeting and the river babbling.

I finally reached the waterfall. I was so excited that I almost slipped down the slimy rocks. Robbie, Lavinia, Angelica and I slowly walked in the waterfall. It was as cold as ice. I shivered and grew goose bumps. People started splashing around. It was super fun!!

Nutrient - Water

Water

Water is good for you
It’s good for me too

We drink it everyday
to wash the waste away

We keep our blood cells clean
Even though it can’t be seen

You can drink water from tanks, bottles and taps
after doing many laps

Fruit and veggies contain water too
and is good for me and you

The End

French Week 1

Today my learning intention was to recap on what we have learnt from Term 3 on how to greet someone. We used Babbel.com to practise. It helped recap on some greeting words. I had to spell the French words, match the pictures, match the words etc. I learnt two words which helped. Such as Bonsoir - Good evening and Bienvenue - Welcome.

Musical Evening 2012

Performer - Room 2
I was so scared. It was my first time to sing in front of a huge audience. I stood there on stage as everyone made the sign of the cross. I tried my best to calm myself down, but I couldn’t. Everyone’s big sparkling eyes were staring right into mine.

It was my turn to shine. I sang our opening prayer which gave everyone a big smile. As I sang the verse, Room 2 began to play the xylophones. I tried to sing with all my might.  I think I did my best.   When I sang the verse for the second time, I was actually enjoying  myself and pretending I was by myself in a big meadow and beautiful daisies all around..

I was so relieved that the song was almost over.  I had a BIG smile on my little face.   Everyone started clapping and cheering.

We finally ended with a bow and walked off stage, wishing to have another chance to perform!!

David Copperfield

Here is my groups summary we have written together. It talks about Chapter 2 of David Copperfield written by Charles Dickens.

Chapter 2 is about Davy observing his childhood. He remembers the times his nurse/housekeeper, Peggotty use to take him to church. She also used to look after him when his Mum was out. One night his mother came home with a gentleman. The same one that escorted them home after church. His name was Mr. Murdstone. Davy did not like him.
2 months later Peggotty asked if Davy would like to spend a fortnight at her brothers, away from home. Davy was excited to leave but at the same time he was sad to leave his home and his mum.

MATHEMATICS

I've learnt how to solve a ratio problem. I am capable of writing my own ratio problems.

Angelica is packing party bags for a party. Each bag has 2 apples and 6 oranges.

1) She needs to fill 12 bags. How many apples and oranges will she need?

2) If she has 36 apples. How many oranges does she need?

3) She has 24 fruits to pack. How many apples and oranges would she need?

DO YOU THINK YOU CAN SOLVE MY PROBLEMS?

Room 7 Times News Report

In Room 7, we work in groups to create either a radio, t.v, or newspaper report on our learning. My group chose to do a newspaper report.
Every week we get together to reflect and share our learning.
It keeps us busy and focus during the week. It is always great to share our learning with the class. We have to know what we are learning, and how we know that we have learnt something.

My first basketball experience !

“Yay finally!, it’s time to play basketball”. I couldn’t wait to play. It was Room 7’s first experience of basketball on a lovely Tuesday morning. Rush, rush, rush everyone rushed in a messy line to the courts.

“Good morning” said a tall man. He was Coach Bruce. He introduced himself and said he was from New York. Woow, I could recognize it from his voice.

The first skill I learnt was how to dribble the ball. It was challenging for me. I kept losing the ball. But at the end I got better and better.

Everyone split into four groups then played a little game. It was a fun game. The four groups had a coloured cone. My group had a red cone. All the coloured cones were spread out. Everyone had to run and dribble the ball to turn their cone around without stopping, back and forth. I had heaps of fun but it was still really hard. “Phew!” I was sweating and puffing.

“Stop, times up!” yelled Coach Bruce. Ohhhh, I had a lot of fun and didn’t want it to end. It was a awesome, new experience. Everyone left the courts and saw Room 6 on their way. Yay I couldn’t wait to come back next Tuesday for another fun experience. What an experiment!

Alone at home !

It was a cold, late night as my mum left home to buy dinner. I stayed home with little brother, George. Mum said not to answer the phone or the door, so I didn't.

I walked to the lounge and watched t.v. It was a horror movie with people running everywhere, I was too scared to even watch it. I then wondered where little George will be, so I crept upstairs with fear. A loud bang had frightened me as I tiptoed quietly.. “George, George, I yelled! Where are you?”.  Suddenly I heard a weird noise. It scared me to death. George yelled for help so I tried walking quickly trying not to make a sound.

“George what was the matter?” said his big sister. “There’s a spider in my room!” yelled George. I was relieved that he was okay. I looked at the spider and thought it was real. But it was just a toy spider. “C’mon George let’s go down stairs” I said.

Squeak, squeak went the stairs. We both walked down together as we heard a loud knock on the door. I was hoping it was Mum. Knock, knock. “Who is it?” I called out. It’s Mum. Yay, mum eventually came home after a terrible experience. I then gave her a big hug and whispered not to leave again.

My Mum

My Mum is amazing, that’s why I love her. She is my best friend and someone I can trust.

Every morning at 6:30 she’ll get up, prepare lunch, and get my siblings reading for school. She is a helpful Mother.

When I’m sad she would be by my side asking for help. She’d always be there for me in times when I need her. My Mum cares about my learning by helping and pushing me to achieve my goals. She is a caring Mother.

She always makes me laugh and keeps a BIG smile on my face.
My Mum is a loving person because she cares for her family and always provides a home for us. My Mum is like an angel, by protecting me from danger. I love her with all my heart and no one will take her away from me. She’s my one and only guard who watches over me.

I thank God for this amazing gift!!!

Chapter 4 page 14&15, talks about Ginetta and her jobs. Her first underground job was in a city hall. During the next two and a half years, Ginetta was a researcher, a spy, a courier, a secretary for the Air Force, a cleaning lady, and a smuggler.
The truth was hard, in the war years. The newspapers were full of propaganda, but it didn’t report the truth.
One day Ginetta carried a cardboard suitcase which was filled with secret newspapers. As Ginetta stopped on a tram, her suitcase hinges fell apart and the newspapers flew out everywhere.
Ginetta hurried to pick it up and walked for miles to her flat.
Ginetta  wore many disguises. She dressed as a cleaning lady. Ginetta was sent to the Swiss border to pick up a knapsack. She had to do take it to her friend. When Ginetta returned, the central train station was bombed. As she walked, two officials were checking passengers bags for contraband. Ginetta tried to walk through. Ginetta reached for her knapsack and went to meet Nino who took her knapsack to the bank. “The knapsack was full of money to help families and prisoners.”

Retreat!

My 2 days at St. Francis centre was a wonderful experience. I have learnt a lot of leadership skills. I also learnt to not be afraid and stand up for myself.

As I lit my first candle, I prayed for the year 8’s to receive God’s direction on our new journey.
So we can become great confident leaders, at our school.

The 1st day of retreat was amazing! My highlight was making our ark. We studied the story of Noah and the ark. The year 8’s got their buddies and each got a bag, of twigs, paper, cardboard, plastic paper and fake money. Lisi, Robertanna's aunty had the tape. We had to buy it off her. Lucky, I had $65 in my bag. We started making our arks. I was with Angelica and Ilaisaane. We had to put 3 stones in our ark, so we tried making it big to balance it.

Well guess what? When we finished everyone went to the fish pond and our one sank first! That was unexpected. I expected it to stay on the top. Well it didn’t. We saw who’s ark was still floating. Actually the small, light arks were floating. I think our one sank because it was pretty heavy. Do you know who won? Well I’ll tell you, It was Lavinia’s team, Zephaniah, Rolland and Siu’s team. “Congrats” said everyone, who lost!

I had the best of fun spending time with the year 8 students and enjoyed every bit of it
